The Alley By:
Nick Roberts
I
sat there looking at my mutilated body. How could someone do so much damage to
one physical object? All I did was take a short-cut down one freaking alley and
boom. I end up dead? I was horrified when I figured out that I had died and was
staring at my own body, but now that I’ve gathered my thoughts and have come to
grips with the situation, I’m on a mission. A mission to find my killer. All I
remember is being hit with something heavy. Maybe a metal bat. I came in and
out of consciousness and then it just went dark. And then I was watching my
killer bolting down the fluorescent-lit drive. I couldn’t have even
comprehended running after him because I was so shocked as to what happened.
And when I had focused myself on what happened it was too late to go after him.
And what good would it do? I’m dead! What am I going to do? Go up to him and
trip him? I had to make up my mind. And fast. So I did. I would find my killer.
And not only would I find him, I was gonna make him regret ever even stepping
on a bug. Because anyone who ends a life needs their own to be tortured.
I
went over my last few days trying to think of anything that may have upset
anyone enough to kill me but I’m pretty sure I didn’t do anything that bad.
Working as a computer doctor doesn’t really cause any big fights. The occasional
annoying customer who thinks he knows even more about fixing computers than you
do, but nothing serious.
After
thinking through every conversation I’ve had in the past week and not coming up
with anything I decided to go searching for my killer. But then I realized that
I never actually saw his face. I don’t know what I’m looking for and I will
probably never see him again.
I
went back to the crime scene looking for any evidence of who it might have
been. And then, out of the dark came a tall man in a black hoodie. He walked
right through me and disappeared into the bushes. Along came another man in a
green T-shirt and a white hoodie. He was walking along when the man who had
been hiding in the bushes jumped out and started beating the poor guy to death.
So I did the only thing I could do. I went over to try to stop it. But I couldn’t
physically stop him. But I could stop him one other way. I walked up to the man
who was killing all these people and grabbed his throat. And he stopped. He
dropped the bat and started rising into the air. Being choked by the last man
he killed. And it would be the last
man he killed. Because how can you kill… if you’re dead?
Wow! Cool. I'm impressed. You have a great writing voice. It's going to be fun to work with you and your writing!
